Paris--(뉴스와이어)--The Ministry of Science and Technology said over the weekend that an event to mark the launch of the Global Ring Network for Advanced Application Development (GLORIAD) and a related international symposium will be held in Seoul Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 5-6)

GLORIAD is a high-speed computer network used to connect scientific organizations in the United States, Russia, China, the Netherlands and Korea. Jointly established by the six countries, it enables the scientific community to move unprecedented volumes of valuable data at 10-gigabit per second (Gbps).

By linking Hong Kong and Seattle to Daejeon at a 10 Gbps optical network on Aug. 1, Korea provided a global research environment for its part for joint international studies of such future-oriented scientific fields of nuclear fusion energy and bioscience.

Among those participating in the event to be held at Lotte Hotel are Vice Science-Technology Minister Choi Seok-shik, William Y. Chang of the U.S. National Science Foundation, Evegany Velikhov, Russian member of the ITER, and Greg Cole, project manager of the U.S. side GLORIAD.

Meanwhile, some 100 scientists and business representatives from the six countries will attend the symposium to review the status of GLORIAD and discuss ways of further expanding and linking GLORIAD.
