PyeongChang construction schedule of Winter Olympics facilities right on track

PyeongChang--(뉴스와이어)--Construction of a main stadium for the 2014 PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games and other major sports facilities in PyeongChang is moving ahead on schedule, announced officials of PyeongChang City.

The city of PyeongChang, located in Korea’s mountainous Gangwon Province, is bidding to host the 2014 Winter Olympics.

According to plans laid out by the 2014 PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games Bid Committee, a total of 13 Olympic venues will be prepared around PyeongChang. Among them, seven will be newly built while the other six, including an Alpine Skiing venue, already exist and will be adapted to meet international standards.

Competition facilities construction for Ski Jumping, Cross Country, and Biathlon has been set out and an all-inclusive Alpensia Resort Project in Gangwon Province is underway.

Besides housing Olympic-related competition facilities, the Alpensia Resort will feature a golf course, a water park, and high-quality accommodations. The CM company selection was done May and a public bidding for design and construction on a turn-key basis was announced August. Other related works are followed based on the schedule.

In other progress reports, the bid committee is commissioning basic design for the Jungbong downhill ski slope. They will solicit design and construction proposals for the ice hockey stadium and figure skating and short-track stadiums through March.

From the early phase of site selection and design, extensive consultation with experts in varies fields including technical points will be line with the construction for all facilities, the Bid Committee reiterated.
