Gangwon Civic Group Drafts Blueprint for Supporting PyeongChang 2014
High on the agenda at the Pan Regional Citizens’ Supporters Association meeting on September 21 were the ongoing preparations for the IOC Evaluation Commission’s visit to PyeongChang in early 2007.
At the meeting held in Chuncheon, capital of Gangwon Province, the civic group also considered the kinds of support that their volunteer network can provide to help meet the needs of the IOC commission and ensure a successful and productive tour.
Although the PyeongChang 2014 bid already enjoys high levels of public support on both a regional and national scale, the association said it refuses to sit back. On Thursday, they considered strategies for better transmitting the excitement of the Olympic bid to cities across the nation, along with ways to further boost the nationwide enthusiasm for the Winter Olympic bid.
The civic association has played an active role in helping shape a supportive atmosphere for PyeongChang 2014 across many regions and communities around Korea.
Gangwon Governor Jin-sun KIM, who is the PyeongChang 2014 bid’s executive president, expressed his will to ensure that bidding activity proceeds at the highest professional caliber, and that public enthusiasm keeps on booming.
Gov. KIM said, “Less than 300 days remain until the 2014 Winter Olympic host city is decided. We should be diligent in preparing everything scrupulously and with great care to fulfill the people’s desire to host the Winter Games."
