PyeongChang 2014 Welcomes 6 Korean TV Networks as Newest Bid Sponsors
Officials with PyeongChang 2014 confirmed on Friday that support from the TV stations will go into effect immediately.
The sponsoring networks are among the nation’s leading TV stations, offering a diverse range of programs with nationwide, and in some cases international, broadcast reach.
Included among the six stations are Korea’s three largest networks - KBS (Korean Broadcasting System), MBC (Munhwa Broadcasting Corp.) and SBS; the 24-hour cable news channel YTN; the business news channel MBN (Maeil Business News), and English-language station Arirang TV.
A joint statement issued by the TV networks said, “For the 2014 bid we join our hands together as one with the 2014 PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games Bid Committee to bring the 2014 Winter Olympics to PyeongChang, Korea.”
Gangwon Province Governor Jin-sun KIM, the executive president of PyeongChang 2014, responded to the news saying, “Today, we have gained the combined strength of six TV stations who will contribute to generating support among the Korean people, one of the key factors for a successful bid. We are confident that PyeongChang will continue to attract many more companies to join our effort, as official sponsors, in the future.”
