East Asian Tourism Coalition Issues Statement Affirming Support for PyeongChang 2014
The delegations from nine Asian nations with provinces or regions represented at the regional tourism forum, which includes Korea’s Gangwon Province, issued a Joint Declaration containing a statement supporting PyeongChang’s bid to host the 2014 Winter Games.
The members of EATOF issued the declaration at the close to their annual General Meeting, held over three days last week in Sibu, Sarawak State, on the Malaysian island of Borneo.
The governor of Gangwon Province, Jin-sun KIM, who is also PyeongChang 2014 executive president, said that cooperation and exchanges among EATOF members will have broad and far-reaching benefits such as expanded tourism potential and promoting the common interests of all regions.
The Asia regional tourism body was established by Korea’s Gangwon Province, where PyeongChang is located, in 2000. It aims to bring together the East Asian provincial governments for cooperation in tourism among their regions and throughout East Asia.
Besides Gangwon Province, the eight active member regions are Tottori Prefecture, Japan; Jilin Province, China; Tov Province, Mongolia; Yogyakarta Special Region, Indonesia; Chiang Mai Province, Thailand; Cebu Province, Philippines; Sarawak State, Malaysia, and Russia’s Primorsky krai Territory.
