A town in Gangwon fills PyeongChang’s mailbox with jumbo New Year’s card

PyeongChang--(뉴스와이어)--New Year’s wishes for success arrived at PyeongChang bid committee headquarters this week by foot - and without the help of reindeer.

Ardent supporters of PyeongChang’s bid to host the 2014 Winter Olympics, residents of Jeongseon County, in Gangwon Province, expressed their wishes for PyeongChang’s success in a very personal way.

At the dawn of 2006, a group of residents delivered a massive placard measuring 2,014 centimeters across to the PyeongChang bid committee. The card contained the wishes of more than 400 local residents, each of whom affixed his or her signature.

Jeongseon County would be front and center for some high-speed action should PyeongChang host the 2014 Winter Olympics. That’s because the Olympic downhill ski runs will be built in this part of Gangwon Province.

The idea for the colossal card emerged at a General Meeting late last year among the Jeongseon communities of Najeon 1-ri, Najeon 2-ri and Sukam-ri.

“We, the residents of an Olympic candidate host region, express our wishes for hosting the 2014 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, which is a grand national project,” said Kwon-il KIM, a member of the Jeongseon County citizen group that delivered the placard to bid committee headquarters on Tuesday.
