PyeongChang 2014 announces completed IOC Questionnaire at signing ceremony

ChunCheon--(뉴스와이어)--The 2014 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Winter Games Bid Committee held a signing ceremony Tuesday ahead of its submission of the IOC Questionnaire by the February 1 deadline. This important document gives the IOC an overview of PyeongChang’s project for hosting the Winter Olympics.

At the 11 a.m. ceremony, officials pledged their determination to do their best in all aspects of the bidding process while adhering strictly to IOC policies. This means ensuring that all preparations are carried out at the highest level, including design and building of safe Olympic competition venues and other infrastructure.

Attending the signing event held at Gangwon provincial offices in Chuncheon were Gangwon Governor Kim Jin-sun, who is also the bid committee’s executive president; bid committee Chairman Han Seung-soo, and provincial assembly Chairman Shim Sang-gi. In addition, the mayors and governors of five cities and counties in Gangwon Province - PyeongChang, Wonju, Gangneung, Hoengseong and Jeongseon - also participated.

“We have revealed new factors that are highly competitive and differentiate us from competing cities, so we are fully prepared for the IOC evaluation,” said a bid committee official. “We have prepared the IOC Questionnaire carefully and with confidence, so we expect a good outcome.”

In its report, the PyeongChang bid committee justified the necessity and obligation of PyeongChang to host the 2014 Winter Olympics. The report consisted of eight major sections: motivation, concept and public opinion; political support, finance, venues, accommodation, transport, security, and general conditions and experience.

The report explains PyeongChang’s plans for holding sporting events in 25 categories, location, lodging for media, a safe chain of command, weather and the environment, and government support.

PyeongChang’s IOC Questionnaire emerged from a collaborative effort that involved discussions with outside institutions such as the Korean Olympic Committee and relevant central government bodies, as well as numerous workshops among experts of PyeongChang’s “Dream Team,” whose superior contributions were recognized during the city’s bid for the 2010 Winter Olympics.

The IOC will evaluate the seven Applicant Cities based on their answers in the Questionnaire, and select the final Candidate Cities of the 2014 Winter Olympics during an Executive Board meeting in late June 2006 after conducting a technical study based on the report.
