Deputy Unification Minister Lee Kwan-sei‘s briefing on North Korea’s missile launches
Responding to reporters' questions on the South Korean government's position, Deputy Minister Unification Lee said that "the government would consider several factors comprehensively and take countermeasures at an appropriate level by stages after going through consultations and coordination with relevant countries."
In addition, Deputy Minister Lee emphasized that "North Korea should not try to resolve the issue by taking provocative actions such as missile launches and must realize that a resolution through dialogue is the most reasonable and the best alternative."
Concerning the questions on whether the 19 th Inter-Korean Ministerial Talks is to be held as scheduled, Deputy Minister Lee once again stated the government's position that it will "repond after reviewing comprehensively and giving careful considerations to the several situations currently taking place such as the scheduled UN Security Council meeting."
Concerning the continuous pursuit of Mt. Geumgang tourism project and the Gaeseong Industrial Complex project, Lee stated, "Mt. Geumgang tourism project and GIC project are mid - and long - term projects carried out by the private , profit - making enterprises for their survival, thus it is desirable that those projects go unaffected."
Regarding North Korea's request for the provision of additional 500,000 tons of rice and 100,000 tons of fertilizers, Deputy Minister Lee replied that the government would stick to its position on aid to North Korea that as Minister Lee Jong-seok had previously revealed, North Korea's missile launches would affect future South Korean humanitarian aid to North Korea.
