20,000 PyeongChang citizens’ walking event at the heart of the province celebrations

PyeongChang--(뉴스와이어)--A whopping 20,000 Gangwon residents who have strong passion to bring 2014 Olympics to PyeongChang have participated in a walking event on July 7th, celebrating the Gangwon Citizens Day.

This year marks the 12th of anniversary of the Gangwon Citizens Day, the day to celebrate the Gangwon Province’s establishment on July 8 and it has been a stage where the province’s citizens can demonstrate their pride, unity and gumption. The Day celebrating events in this year particulary illuminated the “power of the people” in advocating PyeongChang’s successful hosting of the 2014 Winter Olympics.

A special film on the Winter Olympic bidding city was screened and followed by a poetic recitation. A chorus of voices singing ‘Dream of PyeongChang’, the theme song of PyeongChang 2014 Candidate City, resounded and capped off the program.

Gangwon Governor Jin-sun Kim, executive president of the 2014 PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games Bid Committee, said, “Hosting the Winter Olympic is a national project through which Gangwon Province can make itself well-known around the world, in its first Olympic since Gangwon Province adopted its name 600 years ago.

“We will again stand up to realize the ‘Dream of PyeongChang’ and we shall not fail in our second challenge.”
