Great Mountains Music Festival Hosts Benefit Concert to Demonstrate Commitment to Gangwon Province After Storm

PyeongChang--(뉴스와이어)--An annual world-class music festival that was sidelined from the original venue in PyeongChang due to storm damage, has regrouped and organized a benefit concert in Seoul to help citizens of Gangwon Province affected by the torrential rains last month.

A spokesperson said all proceeds from the August 8 fundraising concert will be donated to relief organizations at work in the mountain region. The first piece of the concert, Bach’s Air from Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D minor, has been formally dedicated to the victims of the storms from across the region.

The Great Mountains International Music Festival decided to organize the Seoul benefit, as well as six relief concerts in cities across Gangwon Province from August 1 to 16, as a gesture of appreciation to the people of the province, who have welcomed musicians from the world over during festivals in years past.

Yongpyong Resort in PyeongChang, the original music festival host venue, experienced damage from July’s torrential rains and is currently being restored with support from central government and provincial authorities.

The benefit concert will be held at the Seoul Arts Center, a large-scale complex housing an opera house and a concert hall, among others. The performance will feature the 15-member string ensemble, Sejong Soloists; the pianist Vladimir Feltsman, a regular guest soloist at leading U.S. orchestras, and the cellist Jian Wang, who performs with leading orchestras around the world.

The world premiere of Four Seasons of PyeongChang, a work underwritten by Gangwon Province, will also be performed. This piece represents the theme of this year’s Great Mountains Music Festival and conveys the life cycle of the four seasons in the forests of this scenic mountain region around PyeongChang.
