Korean language proficiency test administered in 28 countries

Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--The tenth Test of Proficiency in Korean(TOPIK) was carried out on September 24 at 73 test centers in 28 countries, according to the Ministry of Education & Human Resources Development and the Korea Institute of Curriculum & Evaluation(KICE).

India, Tajikistan and Azerbaijan were designated as new test host countries this year, while four new test centers were set up within China to make the total number ten. In all, the number of test applicants reached 33,983, up 27.7 percent from the previous year. The increase is a reflection of the sweeping interest in Korean culture abroad, often referred to as the "Korean Wave," especially across neighboring Asian countries.

In order to accommodate the continuous increase, the education ministry and KICE plans to carry out the test twice a year starting 2007, in May and September. Details and updates are provided on the TOPIK homepage(http://topik.or.kr), including level divisions and evaluation criteria, in English, Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, Russian, Deutsch and French. The homepage also provides past three years’ test questions/answers in Korean to help the preparation of applicants.
