Education Ministry Takes Hands with KT Telecop to Ensure Safe School Environment
A major scheme agreed upon by both sides is the ‘youth guard’ service. Students who require personal safety will apply for protection service to KT Telecop. Security guards from the company will then accompany the students from home to school and reverse, guarding them from school violence.
KT Telecop will also patrol and make regular rounds of inspection on unsafe school surroundings, and establish CCTVs within school zones to check student violence, illegal parking around school campuses, and over-speeding vehicles. Security personnel and overall expenses required for the safety devices are to be covered by the private company.
The MOU came in line with the ministry’s policy plan to prevent and root out school violence, announced on February 26, 2007. The plan lays out 15 core strategies including an intensive crackdown on violence, alternative education for students who inflict harm on others, special classes and counseling to reduce drop outs, and police stationing around areas with high violence frequency.
