Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--Twelve Korean Professional Graduate Schools of Business Administration recruited a total of 851 freshmen for the Fall 2007 term, marking an average competition rate of 1.8 to 1, according to the Ministry of Education & Human Resources Development on September 28, 2007.

The professional graduate school system was first introduced in September 2006 with the selection of seven schools, Ewha, Hanyang, Korea, Seoul National, Sogang, Sung Kyun Kwan and Yonsei universities. Dongkuk, International Cyber, Joongang and Sookmyung were added in March 2007, followed by Jeonnam National University this August, making the total number of domestic MBA programs twelve.

Full-time programs offered at eight schools saw an increase of the average entrance competition rate from 1.3 to 1 in Spring 2007 to 1.6 to 1 in Fall admissions. The schools recruited 411 freshmen out of 642 candidates. Nine schools are offering part-time programs, with a gross freshman quota of 609, and a competition rate of 2 to 1 for the Fall 2007 term.

The ratio of freshmen who have job experience grew by 10 percent from 86 percent in Spring 2006 to 96 percent in Fall 2007. More than 35 percent of these students held a previous professional career of ten years and longer.

In terms of international composition, 61 foreign students were newly admitted for Fall 2007, up 45 from the 16 students of Spring 2007. In all, the foreign student enrollment reached 111, with China composing the largest foreign student group, followed by the U.S., Vietnam, India, Russia and Canada.

Schools are proving to be increasingly successful in recruiting foreign faculty as well. Starting this Fall, 87 renowned foreign professors will be teaching at 10 schools, up 36 from the 51 placements in Spring 2007. By nationality, the U.S. reached the top with 54 placements, followed by Germany, the U.K. and Canada.

Alongside, the proportion of English-taught programs increased to 90 percent, accounting for 27 out of 30 programs offered. Eleven full-time programs are currently offered in 100 percent English. Internationalization is also being sought in the format of joint and double degree programs with foreign higher education institutions, currently offered at Ewha, International Cyber, Joongnang, Seoul National and Sogang universities.

The graduate schools are working to obtain international certifications for their MBA programs, from the U.S. Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, the European quality Improvement Service, etc. As of September 2007, Korea University and Seoul National University hold AACSB certifications, while eight other universities are in the process of approval.
