Building the Best-Quality Cars with the Help of Customers
Twenty potential customers in their 20s and 30s – the target customers for the mini-car – participated in the quality clinic, which was exceptially held in Korea. Participants drove the vehicles about 100 kilometers on real roads between Bupyeong and Tong-il Dongsan at Paju. They were asked to evaluate about 200 different items that can impact overall quality, including acceleration, brakes, safety features, noise, convenience, and interior and exterior design.
During the clinic, GM Daewoo engineers who helped develop the mini-car joined the potential customers as they were driving to record their thoughts.
This is all part of GM Daewoo’s final quality improvement activities ahead of the new mini-car’s launch in September. The automaker aims to raise the bar for initial quality by reflecting customer feedback and opinions in the product that comes off the line.
“Our vision of becoming the true leader in product quality is driving us to be more aggressive through customer-based quality improvement activities like the Customer Quality Clinic,” said James DeLuca, Vice President of GM Daewoo Quality Operations. “Our goal is to fully exceed the expectations of customers from day one.”
In addition to the Customer Quality Clinic, GM Daewoo has been carrying out Employee Quality Evaluations since last May to help improve the initial quality of the new mini-car. Fifty employees were selected to drive test cars on real roads for 90 days and offer their suggestions for quality improvement.
The all-new vehicle, which made its debut in Korea at the Seoul Motor Show last April, is GM’s next-generation global mini-car. The vehicle’s development has been led by GM Daewoo. Korea will serve as the first market for the new mini-car.
