Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--Union members at GM Daewoo Auto & Technology (GM Daewoo) today ratified a tentative wage agreement reached between the company and its labor union on July 17. GM Daewoo and the union carried out 12 rounds of negotiations, which began on May 21.

An estimated 66.3 percent of union members, who voted, supported the agreement, which includes a wage freeze for 2009.

“We are very pleased with the ratification of the agreement by our employees and the labor union,” said GM Daewoo President and CEO Michael Grimaldi. “This is very important as we face numerous business challenges. It will enable GM Daewoo, which is an important part of the new General Motors Company, to strengthen our competitiveness in the domestic and global market.”

Labor union Chairman Lee Nam-mook said, “The outcome of this year’s wage negotiations reflects a broad determination by our union members to support GM Daewoo during challenging times. The company and labor union need to continue to work together in order to overcome the current difficulties facing us as a result of the global economic downturn.”

A labor agreement signing ceremony will be held at GM Daewoo’s Bupyeong headquarters in Incheon during the week of August 10.
