GM Daewoo Reports January Sales of 56,281 Vehicles
GM Daewoo’s domestic vehicle sales in January rose 31.1 percent year on year to 9,062 vehicles. Sales were buoyed by steady market demand for GM Daewoo’s mini-car, the Matiz Creative, which maintained its strong momentum through sales in January of 3,735 vehicles.
Exports of complete vehicles by the automaker were up 21 percent in January from 39,040 vehicles exported in January 2009. In January, GM Daewoo also exported 82,757 complete knockdown (CKD) kits of parts and components to be assembled into vehicles.
“Global vehicle sales have shown obvious signs of recovery since the beginning of the new year,” said Rick LaBelle, GM Daewoo Vice President of Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing. “We expect our sales momentum to build in 2010 by accelerating our approach to our home market and key export markets through the introduction of competitive new products and the creation of a more comprehensive new sales network.”
GM Daewoo Auto & Technology was established on October 17, 2002. It has five manufacturing facilities in Korea as well as an assembly facility in Vietnam. In addition, GM Daewoo provides market and brand-specific vehicle kits for assembly at GM facilities in China, Thailand, India, Colombia and Venezuela. In 2009, GM Daewoo sold in Korea and exported more than 1.5 million units, including CKD products.
