GM Daewoo President and CEO Mike Arcamone Leads Change Through Non-Stop Communicative Management
Arcamone attended the 31st Representative General Meeting of the GM Daewoo Labor Union, which was held today at the GM Daewoo Exhibition Hall in the company’s Bupyeong headquarters. Arcamone met with the labor union’s newly formed executive committee as well as labor union representatives, stressing the necessity for change and the importance of a win-win labor-management relationship. He also presented a GM Daewoo business update, highlighting some of the ongoing challenges facing the automaker.
“Excellent people, strong leadership, a cooperative labor-management relationship, and the government’s support to boost the automotive industry are all required for our company to be successful,” according to Arcamone. He stressed the importance of mutual understanding based on the active cooperation and trust of all employees.
Since taking over as the head of GM Daewoo in October 2009, Arcamone has been focused on communicative management and quality. During his meeting with union members, he shared this year’s new product plans, which include the Matiz Creative LPG model and a medium-large sedan. He told the audience that quality, profitability and domestic sales growth would be this year’s most important yet challenging objectives.
Today’s meeting continued the dialogue that Arcamone has maintained with the labor union regarding the company’s business conditions. This is part of his overall belief in listening to various opinions and participating in forums to build consensus. In addition, he frequently visits GM Daewoo’s domestic facilities to talk to employees.
Arcamone earlier met with the newly appointed labor union chapter leader Choo Young-ho on January 4, which was followed by a tour of the company’s Bupyeong plant with Choo the following day. On January 25, he changed his work schedule to visit GM Daewoo’s Changwon plant with its labor union chapter leader.
