GM Daewoo Helps Neighbors in Need, Donates 35 Mini-Vehicles to Social Welfare Institutions
The vehicles donated include the new Matiz Creative global mini-car and the Damas and Labo mini-commercial vehicles. These products offer high fuel efficiency and low maintenance cost, which will benefit financially challenged social welfare institutions. Their compact size will enable the vehicles to easily maneuver through the narrow alleys of welfare districts.
GM Daewoo has donated about 30 vehicles every year since its establishment in 2002. With today’s donation, the automaker has now provided 165 vehicles to support volunteer activities and help its neighbors in need.
Among the 150 participants at today’s donation ceremony were Jay Cooney, Vice President of GM Daewoo; Bu-Hyun Lee, Director General of the Public Health and Society Bureau of Incheon; National Assemblymen Young-Pyo Hong; Incheon Employers Federation Vice Chairman Jong-Kwang Lee; and representatives of social welfare institutions.
We feel a great sense of pride when we see GM Daewoo vehicles serve as the ‘beautiful feet’ for those who are on the front lines and engaged in welfare activities.” Cooney Said.
“We will continue expanding our support of social welfare institutions and those who have been marginalized as part of our effort to help society and make our local communities better places in which to live.”
Bu-Hyun Lee expressed his appreciation by saying: “GM Daewoo‘s culture of charity fostered by its employees’ active volunteerism is contributing significantly to social welfare. Incheon municipality will continue to support projects along with GM Daewoo to help our neighbors facing challenges in their lives.”
Chang-Il Park of Peace 3000, said: “I want to deeply thank GM Daewoo employees for their good hearts and for laying the groundwork for helping the neglected. I will be sure to pass along the love of GM Daewoo employees to our neighbors facing difficulty.”
Among the organizations receiving the donated vehicles are welfare groups that assist the physically challenged, senior citizens, teenagers, multicultural families, refugees from North Korea and the homeless. The donated vehicles will be used to provide transportation for nursing care, counseling, meal service, medical treatment, etc.
Since its establishment in 2005, the GM Daewoo Employee Foundation has been carrying out projects to support those in need, including medical expense support, scholarships, joint wedding ceremonies, kimchi-making and concerts. In addition to providing vehicle donations, GM Daewoo employees also donate their time and services such as repairing welfare facilities, offering material support and providing emergency assistance.
