Chevrolet's new Orlando MPV set to star in Paris
- Function with attitude: crossover look combined with 7-seater versatility
- Will be produced at GM Daewoo’s Gunsan plant from October 2010
- One of four Chevrolet world premieres to be presented at the Paris Auto Show
Based on the show car concept first seen at the Paris show in 2008, the Chevrolet Orlando is a vehicle designed for modern families, combining 7-seat practicality and interior flexibility with a crossover style design.
Full production of the Chevrolet Orlando starts in October at GM Daewoo Gunsan plant with the car going on sale across Europe in early 2011, followed by additional markets around the globe including Korea.
“GM Daewoo is proud to be producing the Orlando for the world,” said GM Daewoo President and CEO Mike Arcamone. “The Orlando will help our company run our manufacturing facilities at full capacity to maximize domestic and export sales while contributing to the growth with our domestic suppliers.”
In Europe, the new Orlando MPV has a key role to play in Chevrolet's continued product offensive and to build its volume across Europe market.
The Orlando is based on GM’s successful and award-winning Cruze compact sedan (sold as Lacetti Premiere in Korea), already proven to offer excellent ride and handling as well as segment leading safety.
"When we launch Orlando in the domestic market, we are confident that it will not only provide our customers with great value, but it will also provide our customers with something fresh - function with attitude if you like - and the opportunity for GM Daewoo to continue building our sales in our home market,” said Arcamone.
Chevrolet‘s new compact MPV features a bold appearance with its low roofline and crossover inspired silhouette, while retaining the distinctive and recognizable Chevrolet ’global face' depicted by the split grille and bow-tie badge.
While the exterior of the new Orlando is sure to draw plenty of attention, the interior also features Chevrolet’s hallmark design cues, such as the Corvette inspired dual cockpit and ambient blue backlighting to the center console. However, it‘s the theater style seating arrangement of the Orlando’s three rows of seats, the generous cargo area and the numerous storage solutions that will also grab the attention of family motorists.
Despite the sweeping roof-line, the designers have succeeded in raising the second and third row of seats, which means Orlando's occupants get an even better view both forwards and to the side. And with a wide variety of seating configurations possible, the Orlando can be quickly transformed into one of the most voluminous vans in the class when it comes to carrying loads.
Under the hood there will be a choice of three of Chevrolet's latest fuel-efficient engines: a 1.8 liter gasoline with 141 hp and two 2.0 liter diesels with 131hp (low output) or 163 hp (high output).
