SEOUL--(Korea Newswire)--GM Korea Company is collaborating with its domestic parts suppliers to ensure mutual growth through zero defects in new products such as the upcoming Chevrolet Malibu.

From August 8-9, the automaker is inviting around 300 representatives from its domestic suppliers to the Phoenix Resort on Jeju Island for a workshop with top GM Korea executives from product development, quality and purchasing. GM Korea President and CEO Mike Arcamone, GM Korea Technical Center Vice President Sohn Dong-youn, GM Korea Quality Managing Director Gary West and GM Korea Purchasing Vice President M. Venkatram are providing business updates and discussing GM Korea’s quality goals as well as new market opportunities.

During the workshop, Arcamone and top leadership will explain GM Korea’s corporate situation in each area and share the importance of zero defects for the Malibu global midsize sedan and Alpheon eAssist, both of which will soon reach the Korean market.

GM Korea has also invited representatives from the government of Shenyang, China, which has been proactively attracting parts suppliers, to attend the conference and meet with local parts manufacturers. They are giving presentations on government incentives, incorporation procedures and procedural instructions for attracting investment from the suppliers. Last year, 550,000 vehicles were produced by automakers in Shenyang. Approximately 100 suppliers are currently doing business in Shenyang

“The profound support of our suppliers has contributed to the growth of GM Korea’s sales, with the launch of Chevrolet and several new products this year. Suppliers need to make a full effort to ensure the highest quality just as GM Korea seeks world-best quality in engineering, in manufacturing and in the field,” said Arcamone.

“GM Korea has been supporting our suppliers’ growth in emerging markets such as Uzbekistan, Russia, Thailand and Brazil since we signed the Shared Growth and Fair Trade Agreement in May. GM Korea will continue to cooperate closely with our suppliers to drive world-best quality,” he added.

“GM Korea has been expanding its two-way communication with suppliers for mutual success,” said Bumyoung Choi, Chairman of the GM Korea Suppliers Association. “Its sustained success depends on the competitiveness and success of its suppliers. All suppliers need to provide world-best quality parts at the right time to ensure their growth and the growth of GM Korea.”

Since its establishment, GM Korea has actively promoted the shared growth of its suppliers and their entrance into export markets. Seventeen Korean suppliers were named General Motors Supplier of the Year in March 2011, accounting for 20 percent of the 82 award winners. Over the past five years, Korean suppliers have provided about $6 billion worth of parts and components to GM’s operations in Korea and worldwide.
