GM Korea Domestic Sales Rise 17.3 Percent in September

SEOUL--(Korea Newswire)--GM Korea Company set a new company record for domestic sales in the first nine months of the year of 105,237 vehicles. It benefited from strong demand in September, selling 11,754 vehicles in Korea and exporting 53,787 vehicles, for total monthly sales of 65,541 vehicles.

Domestic sales in September were up 17.3 percent from 10,018 vehicles sold in September 2010. The automaker’s vehicle exports increased 8.8 percent to 53,787 vehicles from 49,452 vehicles exported in the same month last year. GM Korea also exported 102,359 complete knockdown (CKD) kits of parts and components to be assembled into vehicles.

"Our outstanding domestic sales and exports over the past nine months are due to strong demand for our Chevrolet brand and our competitive lineup of products,” said Ankush Arora, GM Korea Vice President of Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing. “The introduction next month of the Chevrolet Malibu, our new global midsize sedan, will further boost GM Korea’s domestic sales.”

For the first nine months of 2011, GM Korea recorded total sales of 600,203 vehicles. This was an increase of 9.8 percent compared to the same period last year. GM Korea’s domestic sales during the period increased 20.6 percent from 87,274 vehicles sold in the same period last year. GM Korea’s exports in the first nine months rose 7.7 percent to 494,966 vehicles from the 459,454 vehicles exported in the same period last year.

In the first nine months, GM Korea also exported 929,947 CKD kits. This represented an increase of 15.4 percent from the same period last year.
