Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--GM Daewoo Auto & Technology (GM Daewoo) announced today that its products sold in Korea as GM Daewoo Lacetti and GM Daewoo Kalos would reach GM Holden showrooms in Australia in the third quarter of 2005.

According to GM Holden, GM’s affiliate in Australia, the Kalos will be sold as the Holden Barina. It will replace the current Holden model of the same name. The Lacetti will be sold as a new Holden model, the Viva. The Barina will be available in three-door and five-door hatch variants with a 1.6-liter engine. The Viva will come in four-door sedan, five-door hatch and five-door wagon variants with a 1.8-liter engine. Both models will include design and engineering influences from GM Holden.

Alan Batey, Vice President of Commercial Operations at GM Daewoo, said: “The two models manufactured in Korea will help boost GM Holden’s small car presence in the Australian market, just as the Statesman based on GM Holden’s long-wheelbase model has enabled GM Daewoo to successfully enter the large car segment in the Korean market.”

“GM Daewoo engineers worked alongside their counterparts at GM Holden in Australia to fully tailor the two products, from the radio reception and interior trim to the engine and suspension tuning, for the unique needs and expectations of the country’s consumers,” said Hong-Gi Chae, Director of Current Product Engineering at GM Daewoo.

GM Holden Chairman and Managing Director Denny Mooney added, “GM Daewoo products have been successful worldwide under a variety of brands. We believe that with the strength of the Holden brand, the Australian market will be no different.”

GM Daewoo designs, develops and manufactures vehicles that are meeting the specific demands of the 150 markets in which they are available. The automaker’s products are sold globally under some of the GM Group’s most prestigious nameplates including Buick, Chevrolet, Pontiac, Suzuki and soon Holden.

GM Daewoo and GM Holden have a long history of cooperation. For the past 20 years, GM Holden has been the primary supplier of four-cylinder engines to GM Daewoo and the former Daewoo Motor Co. GM Holden began shipments of the Daewoo Statesman from Australia to Korea last month. In addition, the GM Daewoo Technical Center and GM Holden design organization have joined forces on many projects.

GM Daewoo Auto & Technology, based in Incheon, Korea, was established in 2002. It has five manufacturing facilities in Korea as well as an assembly facility in Vietnam. GM Daewoo products are also assembled at GM facilities in China, Thailand, India, Colombia and Venezuela. In 2004, GM Daewoo sold over 900,000 vehicles with exports to more than 150 countries. Imported GM products from the Cadillac and Saab premium brands are sold in Korea through GM AutoWorld retailers.
