SEOUL--(Korea Newswire)--The GM Korea Employee Foundation, a social welfare organization established by GM Korea employees, held an early Christmas party on the evening of December 13 at its Bupyeong headquarters in Incheon for some special guests.

Three hundred children from nine local welfare institutions – including the Bukwang Multicultural Family Support Center, Narae Local Children Center and Youngsan Local Children Center – and multicultural families participated.

Also participating were GM Korea President and CEO Mike Arcamone, Technical Center Vice President Dongyoun Sohn, Finance and Administration Vice President Carlos Zarlenga, Senior Advisor of Government Relations and Public Policy Inbom Choi, and Executive Director of Corporate Affairs Jina Hwang.

Arcamone said, “What a pleasure it is to see the happiness of the children. Our employees can feel the children’s energy. We will continue to arrange special activities for children, who are the leaders of the future.”

Choi said the party was arranged to help the company’s neighbors in need. “I’d like to thank GM Korea employees for showing so much interest and support for this activity despite a busy end of the year,” he said.

Hangbok Ko, one of the children who participated in the Christmas party, said he was thrilled to get a Christmas present from a “grandpa” who looked exactly like Santa Claus in the movies. He said the party would give him a good memory that he will never forget.

The party began with a musical performance by a brass band and wind instruments. It also included a magic show, bubble show, B-boy pop dance performance and an ocarina play prepared by the children. GM Korea employees dressed up as Santas played various games in teams with the children and gave out Christmas presents.

The children at the party cheered with excitement as Mike Arcamone presented a large television as a surprise gift to one of the children who had written a letter asking for a television for Christmas to share with his friends.

Since its establishment in 2005, the GM Korea Employee Foundation has been carrying out charitable activities, providing support such as reimbursing medical expenses, offering scholarships, funding education for underprivileged gifted students and improving housing conditions. It has also been engaged in various social welfare projects, including donating vehicles, renovating welfare facilities, providing daily necessities and emergency relief, and organizing employee volunteer activities.

The GM Korea Employee Foundation was recognized for its work, receiving the Health & Welfare Minister’s Award for the second time on October 25. It was also honored in 2007.
