GM Korea Sets Domestic Sales Record in 2011

SEOUL--(Korea Newswire)--GM Korea Company, which was established in 2002, set a domestic sales record last year of 140,705 vehicles.

“GM Korea benefited from the success of the global Chevrolet brand, which we introduced in March, and the positive response of domestic consumers to our new lineup of products,” said Ankush Arora, GM Korea Vice President of Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing.

During the month of December, GM Korea’s domestic sales jumped 26.1 percent to 13,614 vehicles from 10,798 vehicles sold in the previous month. Demand remained strong for the Spark mini-car, Orlando Active Life Vehicle and Alpheon world-class luxury sedan as well as its sibling, the new Alpheon eAssist.

GM Korea’s exports in December of 54,567 vehicles were down 4.0 percent compared with the same month in 2010. In December, GM Korea also exported 112,195 complete knockdown (CKD) kits.

GM Korea had domestic and export sales of 808,309units in 2011, which was up 7.6 percent from the previous year. GM Korea’s domestic sales were up 11.9 percent from 125,730 vehicles in 2010. GM Korea’s export sales remained strong as well in 2011, increasing 6.7 percent to 667,604 vehicles from 625,723 vehicles exported in 2010.

In 2011, GM Korea also exported 1,243,665 CKD kits. This represented a year-on-year increase of 14 percent.
