GM Korea Reports May Sales of 67,571 Vehicles

SEOUL--(Korea Newswire)--GM Korea Company announced today that it sold 13,005 vehicles in the domestic market and exported 54,566 vehicles in May. Total sales for the month were 67,571 vehicles.

Once again driven by strong demand for the Chevrolet Spark mini-car, Cruze compact sedan and Orlando Active Life Vehicle, domestic sales in May exceeded 13,000 vehicles for the third consecutive month. Domestic sales in May were up 4.9 percent from the same month last year.

"Our sales results over the first five months of 2012 indicate growing interest in GM Korea’s full product lineup and the increasing popularity of Chevrolet brand in Korea,” said Ankush Arora, GM Korea Vice President of Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing.

“We expect sales to remain positive through the end of the year as we aggressively target the global market and add to our domestic portfolio with the upgraded 2013 Cruze equipped with the Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system,” he added.

Exports of complete vehicles by GM Korea were up 12.2 percent in May from 48,619 vehicles exported from the previous month. GM Korea also exported 135,347 complete knockdown (CKD) kits of parts and components to be assembled into vehicles.

For the first five months as a whole, GM Korea recorded sales of 335,476 vehicles. This was an increase of 0.4 percent compared to the same period last year. Domestic vehicle sales jumped 4.8 percent to 57,966 units from 55,311 units in the same period last year. GM Korea’s exports in the first five months of 2012 were down 0.4 percent to 277,510 units from 278,669 units in the first five months of last year.
