Korean government support activated to host the 2014 PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games

PyeongChang--(뉴스와이어)--The 1st council meeting of the Governmental Support Committee for the 2014 PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games was held at the government central office on July 18th, presided by the Korean Prime Minister, Hae-chan Lee. The meeting was aimed at examining the 2014 Olympic Winter Games Bid Committee promotional activities so far and discussing strategic schemes and support at the governmental level.

The council meeting drew the consensus of close cooperation for the best result by concentrating all government’s effort, and built a cooperating system among the bid committee, the government and KOC.

The governor of Gangwon Province, Jin-Sun Kim and 18 government committee members participated in the meeting including the Minister of Finance and Economy, the Minister of Education and Human Resources Development, the Minister of Culture and Tourism, the Minister of Government Administration and Home Affairs, the bid committee chairman and KOC president.
The 2014 PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games Bid Committee was inaugurated March 31 this year under the aim for winning the right to host the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang. After the launch of the committee, the 2014 Winter Olympic Games Bid Government Support Committee Regulations was proclaimed and the 2014 Olympics Government Support Committee was created on April 6.

From the start, the Korean government has shown strong supports and backing for the committee throughout the preparation and played a key role in mediating various opinions among all related organizations.

In particular, this council meeting provided a good opportunity for each relevant ministry to discuss the ways of supporting measures for the bid committee and its effort.

A summary of the issues discussed at the meeting.

1. Support the establishment of Infrastructure including the construction of stadiums, expansion of transportation network, etc.
- While basically utilizing the existing facilities, prepares a plan for related divisions’ inspections and supports in developing requisite new infrastructures for the future.

2. Support for government guarantee IOC requests
- Government guarantee on infrastructure such as a transportation network, etc
- Issues of guarantees on safety, medical service, customs, immigration management and observance of the Olympic Charter

3. The government’s full support aiming to raise nation’s participations.
- To manifest, both internally and externally, government’s strong willingness for hosting the game and concrete & specific supporting plans.
- To features the special coverage on various government promotional publications on PyeongChang.
- To promote activities utilizing major events organized by government, etc

4. Plans to support the each government division’s assignments
- Comparing to other competitive cities, differentiated proposals and policy supports on Ubiquitous Olympic, Olympic family immigration, Special transportation plans, IT, etc.
