PyeongChang--(뉴스와이어)--PyeongChang in Gangwon Province, south Korea made its second attempt to host 2014 Olympic Winter Games, following the 2010 bid.

KOC president, Jung-Kil Kim submitted PyeongChang’s formal bid application to host 2014 Winter Olympics to the IOC on July 21. Now then, PyeongChang has launched a full-scale campaign for one goal-to host the 2014 Winter Olympics.

According to information on the Candidature Acceptance Procedure, which was announced by the IOC on May 30, the deadline that each NOCs should inform the IOC of the name of an Applicant City is July 28. However, PyeongChang made the submission earlier than the deadline, given the fact that PyeongChang was selected as a Korea’s candidature and got the governmental official approval.

Prior to the submission, Governor of Gangwon Province, Jin-Sun Kim and Mayor of PyeongChang City, Hyeok-Seung Kwon officially signed the 2014 Candidature Acceptance Procedure and the Letter of Support for the 2014 PyeongChang bid on July 18.

The statement from the letter of support to the IOC president says that “PyeongChang has made continuous efforts to promote winter sports and to expand infrastructures such as competition venues and transportation network. It is very pleasant moment that PyeongChang is running again to win the right to host the 2014 Olympic Games fully backed by both the government and the entire Korean.” In addition, it says that PyeongChang promised to do its utmost to deliver the most successful Games ever if the holding of the Games is entrusted to PyeongChang.

Gangwon Province launched the 2014 PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games Bid Committee on March 31 and has geared up for bidding process with the governmental unwavering support.

President Moo-hyun Roh pledged on July 6 during his visiting to PyeongChang that he will actively support the bid by Gangwon Province to host the PyeongChang 2014 Winter Olympic Games. In addition to that, the Korean Prime Minister, Hae-chan Lee convened the 1st council meeting of the Governmental Support Committee for the 2014 PyeongChang bid on July 18. Some of the issues discussed at the meeting were government support of the infrastructure for the Games including the construction of stadiums and national interest raise in the bid.

The final decision to select the official host city of the XXII Olympic Winter Games will be made in July 2007 at the 119th IOC Session in Guatemala City, Guatemala.
