KNPA holds meeting to better protect overseas Korean residents
Police officials working at diplomatic missions in foreign countries including the U.S., Japan and China participated in the meeting.
The meeting, presided over by Commissioner General Huh Joon-young, was devoted to seeking ways of dealing with a variety of problems and accidents involving Korean residents and visitors to foreign countries.
Participants had a rare chance to share information and raise their ability to do their jobs, particularly dealing with troubles and accidents Koreans may face abroad.
They exchanged various opinions and ideas to work out ways of promoting cooperative investigation with their foreign counterparts and constructing an efficient system to protect Koreans abroad.
Also, they had a thorough review on the directives and guidelines from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) on discharging missions to foreign countries.
KNPA plans to report the outcome of the review, complementary measures and suggestions to the ministry, along with particulars to be improved on or corrected depending on the characteristics of the region or country.
Presently, the KNPA is discussing with the authorities concerned, including the Ministry of Planning and Budget, the dispatch of 30 additional officials to 30 areas in 21 countries to better protect Korean residents and temporary visitors abroad.
